Carbon Offsetting

The pathway to Net Zero should focus on carbon reduction however, it is inevitable that some hard to abate sectors will need to reply on carbon offsetting to some extent. There has been significant challenges and risks to date with using offsets whereby organizations rely on offsets too early which can be a form of greenwashing, and / or there is a lack of clarity around which offsets are suitable or not. The research should include a literature review on approaches to carbon offsetting, including a review of standards, voluntary / compliance markets, potential risks, case studies and recommendations for ensuring best practice if using offsets to reach Net Zero.
